First Visit Expectations

A legal parent or guardian must accompany your child to their first visit. A minor may come by themselves to any subsequent cleanings and exams ONLY with prior notarized parental consent.

Here is what your child can expect during their initial visit to Little Tooth Pediatric Dentistry.

The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommends that parents and healthcare providers help every child establish a dental home by twelve months of age. Children who have a dental home are more likely to receive appropriate preventative and routine oral health care. Seeing a child by twelve months of age provides critical opportunities to educate parents and establish proper dental health practices which reduce a child’s risk of preventable dental disease.

We will first get to know your child by asking some questions about their medical and oral health history. Please bring a list of any medications they may be taking, their dosages, and also include all vitamins and over-the-counter supplements.

We love to educate our patients and answer questions, so don’t be shy! We encourage you and your child to ask questions and express any concerns or desires.

A patient’s first visit includes a comprehensive oral exam that evaluates your child’s bite to make sure it is developing correctly, age-appropriate nutritional counseling, a review of proper home care techniques that encourage self-care, x-rays (if necessary), and charting of any existing dental restorations. Your child will also have a cleaning at this appointment.

Once their exam and cleaning are complete, your child’s doctor will review their findings with you and, if necessary, create a treatment plan.

We want your child’s visit with us to exceed every expectation, so please ask any questions and offer any suggestions you have!
